[Arc](https://arc.net/) is a new browser by The Browser Company. While built on Chrome with many of the same browser extensions and features of Chrome, it offers a much cleaner browsing experience. Arc uses Swift to load pages and comes with the Ublock extension out of the box, resulting in faster page loads, although it can be slower on startup. The biggest difference is how it handles tabs. Arc helps avoid proliferation of tabs by limiting their unintended duplication. (How many times have you seen a little cursor in a Google Doc indicating you already had the tab open when you just opened a new one? No more in Arc!). Arc also archives unused tabs after a specified period of time. It's not for everybody and difficult to translate into words; you just have to try it to see if it works for you. Arc employs a sidebar rather than arraying tabs across the top of the screen. [Instead of bookmarks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nPoxsYUvTY), save your most visited sites as favorites at the top of the sidebar for quick access and pin other sites you frequent, organized in folders if you prefer, within the sidebar. A powerful feature of Arc is workspaces, which allow you to customize your browsing experience based on the mode of work (personal versus work, for example). It is the same as having multiple Chrome profiles, including the ability to associate each with a different account. The experience feels better managed encouraging you to create more workspaces to really hone your focus (or not) depending on what you're doing on the web. Arc was recently released for Windows (May 2024) with limited (but still powerful) features. > [!Warning] > The Windows launch of Arc was targeted by hackers. Typo-squatted URLs are being promoted in Google Search results that lead to an official-looking web page that has a download for the browser AND an infostealer that installs silently alongside Arc.
