PDFs with complex layouts may not fully convert to Kindle format (e.g., the font size cannot be adjusted on your Kindle). You can try using third-party software to convert to a more Kindle-friendly format like EPUB or MOBI before uploading to Kindle. There are a few options, but I recommend the free and open source [Calibre e-book management software](https://calibre-ebook.com/).
1. Download and install Calibre
2. Provide your kindle email address (optional). You will need to follow the instructions to set up a GMX account from which to send emails.
3. In the top toolbar, click **Add books** and navigate to your PDF file
4. In the top toolbar, click **Convert books** and select the recently added file. Select EPUB as the output file type.
If you have set up an email with GMX, select **Connect/share** to email yourself the converted file. If not, find the file in your directory (`~/Calibre Library`) and use one of the options in [[send PDFs to Kindle]].
